You Don't Need Everyone to Understand

You don't need everyone to understand your vision. God placed it on your heart. He gave you the desire, the dream, the idea, the calling, and if He is the one who placed it there, then the only thing you should be focused on is obedience to Him. Not everyone is going to understand your vision. Honestly, not everyone is even going to care to understand it. They may not understand your plans, your decisions, your “why,” or why you feel so strongly about something they can't see yet. If we're being honest, that can be uncomfortable.

We want people to understand us. We want the people we love to see what we see. We want them to believe in us, encourage us, and tell us we're making the right decision. Sometimes we can spend so much time trying to explain our vision to other people that we lose sight of the One who gave it to us in the first place.

Following God in obedience doesn't always mean everyone around you will understand what you're doing.

Sometimes obedience looks like taking the next step when you don't have all the answers. Sometimes it looks like starting something small. Sometimes it looks like saying yes when you're still scared. Sometimes it looks like continuing to build when nobody else can see what you're building and sometimes obedience looks like seeking Him first.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” — Matthew 6:33

The vision and dream God placed on your heart was created specifically for you. He doesn't make mistakes. He knows you, your gifts, your story, your circumstances, and the places He is leading you. He sees the beginning, the middle, and the end when all you can see is the next step. So why are we so concerned with whether everyone else understands?

You don't need permission from everyone to follow what God has placed on your heart. You don't need their approval. You don't need them to see the potential.

You don't need them to understand the why. You need to seek God and ask Him what faithfulness looks like today. That doesn't mean every idea or dream we have automatically came from God. It means we bring our plans to Him. We surrender them to Him. We ask Him to close the doors that need to be closed and open the ones He wants us to walk through. We allow Him to shape our desires, our character, and our plans before we rush ahead of Him.

That part is hard.

Because sometimes we want the fruit before we've grown the roots.

We want the finished product before we've done the small, unseen work. We want the platform, the success, the answered prayer, the growth, or the harvest. But God may be more concerned with who we are becoming in the process than how quickly we arrive at the destination.

I was recently listening to a podcast featuring a sermon from Phillip Anthony Mitchell, and one part of his message really stuck with me: the timing of the fruit isn't up to us. It's up to Him. That hit me. We can plant. We can water. We can work. We can show up. We can be obedient. But we don't control when the fruit comes.

That's God's job.

Our job is to seek Him first. To allow Him to shape us and mold us. To trust His timing. To keep showing up when He asks us to. And when He determines that we're ready to move forward, He will make the way. We don't have to force the harvest. We just have to be faithful with the seed and don't underestimate the small beginnings.

That idea you're working on after the kids go to bed? It counts.

That prayer you've prayed a hundred times? It counts.

That first step you've been afraid to take? It counts.

The little bit of progress nobody else sees? It counts.

The effort you put in when you aren't getting recognition? It counts.

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” — Zechariah 4:10

We live in a world that wants immediate results. We're constantly shown other people's finished products without seeing the years of planting, learning, failing, praying, and growing that happened behind the scenes. God's timeline isn't Amazon Prime.

Sometimes He takes us through a season of preparation because there is something in us that needs to grow before the thing we're asking for can grow through us.

So if you're in a season where you're building something and nobody really understands it, keep building anyway.

If you're starting small, keep going.

If the vision feels bigger than you, keep seeking Him.

If people question your plans, take their words to God before you take them to heart.

If you don't know exactly how it's all going to work out, remember that you were never asked to know the whole plan. You were asked to trust the One who does.

“For we live by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7

Maybe you're waiting for someone to tell you that your vision makes sense or you have a great idea. Keep planting. Keep praying. Keep working. Keep building.

Even when it's small. Even when it's unseen. Even when you're misunderstood.

Because the vision God placed on your heart doesn't need everyone's approval.

It needs your obedience.

And maybe the greatest act of faith isn't knowing exactly where the vision will take you. Maybe it's trusting God enough to take the next step anyway.
